Lorilyn’s Book Review: The Rapture by Sandra Julian Barker

The Rapture: Imagining the Day that Changes the World Forever by Sandra Julian Barker is an excellent read for anyone who has questions about the rapture. I agree with her theology on almost everything about the rapture, including the timing. I believe in a pre-tribulation rapture. Israel will be the focal point of the seven-year tribulation, and thus, the church is in no way seen as replacing Israel in end-time events.

The “Day of the Lord” is about Israel: The rebuilding of the Temple, the peace treaty that will involve Israel and surrounding nations signed at the behest of the Antichrist, and the timing of peripheral events like the Gog/Magog War.

Sandra uses believable but fictional stories to illustrate her points, much like Jesus did when He told parables. She also quotes Scripture to emphasize pivotal moments in the narrative. At the end of the book, she includes footnotes and references, encouraging the reader to search the Scriptures and ask for God’s wisdom to understand how this life-changing event will happen.

Sandra touches on the critical point about how those who are left behind will explain the disappearance of millions of people worldwide.

I can’t think of a topic more relevant today than the rapture. Anyone who looks at what’s happening knows things can’t continue the way they are. Several times, Sandra presents the Gospel to those who may be searching for answers and don’t know where to turn.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand the rapture with a Biblical worldview. Wherever you fall in your timeline, whether pre-trib, mid-trib, or post-trib, the fictional stories speak to the essence of what will happen, and the Scriptures validate that it will happen. So, there is some nuance and freedom to disagree with Sandra’s presentation of the timing of key events. I happen to concur with her based on my understanding of Scripture.
