The Ezekiel War, America, and Israel
“You [Gog] and your army and your allies will all die on the mountains [Samaria], I will feed you to the vultures and wild animals” (Ezekiel 39:4, NLT).
“And I will make a vast graveyard for Gog and his hordes in the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Dead Sea. It will block the way of those who travel there, and they will change the name of the place to the Valley of Gog’s Hordes” (Ezekiel 39:11, NLT).
Based on these two passages, we know that Gog is an important character in the days leading up to (and perhaps including the Tribulation). However, he is unlikely to be the Antichrist. The Antichrist is the world leader beginning at about the halfway point of the seven-year Tribulation; hence, if he dies early on, the Scriptures can’t be fulfilled.
Jesus discussed wars and rumors of war in the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24-25, Mark 13, and Luke 21), but the next major war on the horizon is the war mentioned in the Ezekiel 38 and 39 passages quoted above.
The Ezekiel War will be a World War III-level event with many countries involved.
This war will involve a nuclear exchange based on Ezekiel 38:22 (NLT): “I will punish you and your armies with disease and bloodshed; I will send torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and burning sulfur!”
Ezekiel 38:13 (NKJV): “Sheba [Saudi Arabia], Dedan [Saudi Arabia], the merchants of Tarshish [high probability Turkey], and all their young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’”
If these countries only protest, this is not a strong response to a malignant bully that invades Israel using nuclear weapons. That raises an unsettling question: What has happened to America? Could we be the “young lions” in the above passage? If so, America’s presence on the world stage is insignificant at some point in the near future, when impending calamity is near.
Historically, God has given “signs” from heaven as warnings to His people. Examples of an eclipse heralding upcoming war include the war between the Medes and the Lydians in 585 B.C. On June 30, 1973, one of the longest solar eclipses in recorded history occurred. The Yom Kippur War in Israel followed from October 6 to October 25, also referred to by many as the Ramadan War. The Boko Haram uprising on July 26-29 occurred a few days after a significant eclipse on July 22, 2009.
Is it coincidental that many of these wars associated with solar eclipses took place in Islamic-dominated areas?

Another total solar eclipse happened on June 20, 1955. Guess what major war ramped up in 1955? The Vietnam War. One might protest and say that this event didn’t involve a Muslim nation. However, that same year, a war did erupt that involved an Islamic nation—a country that is even mentioned in the Ezekiel 37-38 nuclear event: Sudan. The first Sudanese Civil War began in 1955 and lasted until 1972. Over one million people died in this conflict, which is not well known in the West.
That’s also why the recent eclipses over the United States are biblically significant. Luke 21:11 (ESV): “There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.”
As a friend once said, the second time something happens is always more profound and significant than the first. I didn’t understand what he meant until I started thinking about it.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the first cities to be bombed with an atomic bomb. The next “reiteration” will be far worse.
Compare the destruction of the First Temple to the destruction of the Second Temple. In the first instance, the Jews were held captive in Babylon for 70 years. Following the destruction of the Second Temple, the Jews were dispersed for 2,000 years.
Another example: When the Jews came into the Promised Land the first time, they claimed only a portion of what God had promised them. When they return to the Promised Land in the Millennium, the 12 tribes will claim all their land, which God has already allocated to them.
Another example: Moses gave us the Law. Jesus gives us Eternal Life.
Final example: We receive life as mortals when we are born in the flesh (our first birth). But when we are born the second time (in the spirit), we receive eternal life.
Again, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the first cities to have a nuclear weapon dropped on them. But what happens in the future will be magnified and much more devastating.
I don’t believe America will be destroyed at the hands of a nuclear weapon. That doesn’t mean, however, that we will escape judgment. I think our judgment will be financial, political, and cultural. The Jews will be forced to leave America and return to Israel (which is what God wants them to do) under two scenarios: Antisemitism (which is already happening) and financial collapse (which I think is coming).
As long as the American Jews have lots of money, imbued with opulent lifestyles, fancy houses, and souped-up cars, they will be reluctant to leave their wealth behind. Once it’s gone, they will be inclined to return to Israel—their homeland. God is already calling them to welcome them home.
While some Christians believe this wealth redistribution will happen with the coming financial meltdown, I don’t think the transference will occur until the Millennium. Why would God release it before then and allow the wicked nations to use it? Especially if the Christians are no longer here because of the rapture.
One thought about the recent eclipse over America gives me hope
The eclipse’s trajectory included several cities named Nineveh, reminiscent of the Old Testament city of Nineveh. God withheld judgment on the city because the people of Nineveh repented. Perhaps that is an omen to America; although we will suffer immensely, we may be spared heavy involvement in the nuclear exchange predicted in Ezekiel 38 and 39.
Another thing to remember is that in the end times (as portrayed in the Olivet Discourse, the book of Revelation, and the minor prophets of the Old Testament), the focus is on Israel, specifically Jerusalem. America is in decline; almost everyone believes that. Perhaps our insignificance will be hastened by the disappearance of millions of Christians. Maybe the influx of illegal immigrants will weaken and drain our country of its resources; we will just fade away as so many other nations have done throughout history.
We only know for sure of one country that will survive into the Millennium: Israel. As the age of the Gentiles winds down and the dark Tribulation days approach, we need to pray for Israel, our children (born and unborn), and the salvation of the Jews. If America makes it into God’s Millennial Kingdom, it will be only because of our love for God’s people and His precious children—protecting them from abortion, pedophilia, and sex trafficking.
Luke 17:2 (NLT): “It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin.”
I always like to end these kinds of “intense” articles on a positive note. The book of Isaiah vaguely references the “remnant” on the earth, bringing gifts to Jesus as He sits on David’s throne in Jerusalem.
Isaiah 66:20a (NLT): “They will bring the remnant of your people back from every nation. They will bring them to my holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to the LORD.”
As we approach the Jewish fall festivals, all eyes will be focused on Israel. Perhaps something will happen on the Temple Mount; maybe the rumors of wars we are hearing about now will turn into the Ezekiel War. Regardless of what happens, we must remember that God is in control.
Psalm 103:19 (NLT): “The LORD has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.”
